OKPTA celebrates the importance of public education to our democracy.

On February 28th, we reminded our communities and elected officials how important public schools are as they serve 700,000 students in Oklahoma.

Make plans to join us next winter at the Oklahoma State Capitol to join other public education advocates in meetings with legislators!

What to be more involved? Join in actives all week that can make an impact.

Sunday, February 25: Update your social media profile picture with the red #PublicSchoolProud image. Download it from HERE and upload it to your profile. Also, pick up some note cards so you’re ready to send snail mail to elected officials on Monday!

Monday, February 26: Send a handwritten note or card to our elected officials. Consider writing the Gov, Lt. Gov, State Superintendent and your legislators. Share the importance of public school and encourage them to fully support public education. (Kids' notes are impactful, too!) Imagine the impact on our leaders when they receive LOTS of public ed mail!

Tuesday, February 27: Share the reasons you love public school on your social media accounts. Wear #RedforEd  or red, white & blue in a video or selfie OR post a favorite school moment photo with the hashtags #PublicSchoolProud, #RedforEd, #WeChoosePublicSchool, #OklaEd.

Wednesday, February 28: Join us at the State Capitol for a pep rally and meetings with legislators. Can't make it in person? Schedule a zoom meeting with your legislator or send an email.

Thursday, February 29: Quote your kid! Ask your student their favorite thing about school and share their answer on social media. Don't forget your hashtags!

Friday, March 1: Send a note or email to your student's teachers reminding them of their value and saying thanks.
